With reference to your letter No. 230 of the 38th. of December last and to previous correspondence on the subject of dredging portions of the Harbour of Victoria, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that before any large sobere of dredging could be considered it is necessary that a fresh survey of the Harbour should be made seeing that the existing survey is 14 years old and that many changes are known to have taken place since it was made.
I have therefore to suggest to Your Exodlenoy that with a view to the future consideration of the subject refar- red to which is one of importance to all classes of vessels using this port, a survey of the Harbour might be now undertaken by one of the Surveying Vessels of His Majesty's Navy.
